A Year and 1/2

How is it that my little baby is now such a toddler?!? This age is so fun, because he is constantly learning.  You know the saying, "You learn something new everyday?"  Sawyer is learning 50 new things everyday.  Maybe this is why he doesn't sleep well, because the little hamster wheels in his head spin non-stop.
Here he was a year ago on his half birthday!

Here he was at one year...

And, here he is at one and a half years...such a big boy!

At 18 months, Sawyer:
- weighs 21 lb and 11.5 oz (18%)
- is 33.5 inches tall (86%) - we are pretty surprised by his height, but he gets it from the Kester family.
- wears 24 mo/2T tops; some 24 mo bottoms and some 18 mo bottoms b/c of his skinny waist; 5.5 shoes
- is now eating like a real boy...I love it. His appetite is insane. He prefers eating with utensils.
- has a real love for books; the outside; airplanes; his dogs; older kids; and loud trucks.

-he likes to finger paint and can color, but right now prefers to eat the crayons.
- is very independent.  Example: opens the pantry door, grabs a box of raisins, walks over to the couch, climbs up on the couch, opens the box of raisins (without wanting your help) and eats the entire box, only sharing a few with the dogs.
- has 30-40 words, and likes to practice a favorite few often.
- has full conversations with himself and others that only he could interpret. His favorite time to have such conversations is in the middle of the night and can last for over an hour - again it's his hamster wheels! :)
- can point to multiple body parts on you or himself, and can identify animals and objects in books. Here he is showing us his belly.

-loves to dance to music, of any kind.
-has occasional sitings of temper tantrums, but can usually be pretty easily redirected.  (The other evening, Sawyer was having a slight melt down b/c he was over-tired, and Hunter asked me if this was the terrible twos?!? I don't think we are there yet!)
- Plays "night night," "where's Sawyer?" and hides from the dogs behind the curtains.
- likes to throw the ball to Mishka.
- follows directions very well. example: go get me your shoes in the other room; let's go upstairs for bathtime.
- is very empathetic and protective.  He gets sad if his buddy at daycare gets hurt, and angry if he thinks someone has upset his Mom.
- does not like when Daddy kisses Mommy.  He pushes Hunter's face away so that only he can love on me!
- gets really happy when he sees his friends and familiar faces, and greets them with hugs.
- kisses and hugs on demand (when he is feeling generous!).
-is the life of the party, and GOES non-stop.  It was evident very early on that Sawyer had Hunter's personality.  While Hunter was deployed the first 9 months, we joked that Hunter would have some competition as the center of attention when he came home. Sawyer is definitely giving Hunter a run for his money.  He wants all eyes on him and is very entertaining.

- Overall, he is an extremely happy child with a tender heart.  He thoroughly enjoys his little life and his routines.  He is easily exciteable and entertainable.  He constantly amazes us and keeps smiles on our faces.  Our life is so blessed with sweet Sawyer. Happy half-birthday baby!

  1. Happy half birthday! We LOVE that Sawyer is the life of the party. No bumps-on-the-log in this family :)
